Authorities are investigating a fatal collision between a Brightline train and a pedestrian that happened near Aventura on Monday afternoon.

The crash was near Northeast 207th Street and West Dixie Highway about 2:10 p.m. in Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade Police Detective Lee Cowart said.

A man was found dead at the site, Cowart said.

The identity of the person who was struck by the higher-speed passenger train was part of the investigation and was not immediately released.

Brightline trains travel between Miami and West Palm Beach and reach speeds of up to 79 mph. Ali Soule, a Brightline spokeswoman, declined to provide information on the train’s destination or whether there would be delays in service.

Eleven people have died in crashes involving Brightline trains since test runs began in 2017. That tally rose to 12 on Monday afternoon.
