The Lycoming College Concert Band (LCCB) will once again join forces with the Repasz Band on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7:30pm. The concert, held at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport, is free and open to the public.
The LCCB, under the direction of William Ciabattari, Ph.D., associate professor of music and chair of the department, will begin the program, followed by the Repasz Band, under the direction of Al Nacinovich. Both ensembles will combine to perform Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Procession of the Nobles” and Whitacre’s “October.” The concert will close with a finale of the “The Stars & Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa.
The concert will also feature Jari Villaneuva as a special guest conductor. Villanueva retired from the United States Air Force where he spent 23 years with The United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. Since 2008, Villanueva has worked for the Maryland Military Department, serving as the director of the Maryland National Guard Honor Guard (MDNGHG). The mission of the MDNGHG is to provide military funeral honors to veterans of the armed forces in Maryland, and performs more than 3,500 ceremonies each year. He is an arranger, conductor, trumpeter, and is considered the country’s foremost expert on military bugle calls.
An ensemble of approximately 50 members, LCCB is comprised of woodwind, brass, and percussion players who perform wind band literature. The band performs five times annually on campus and tours at the end of the spring semester. Membership is open to all campus students by audition.
The 75-member Repasz Band, comprised of musicians from accomplished amateur musical enthusiasts to professional musicians, is committed to bringing audiences the most enjoyable musical experience possible through community concerts.
