Christopher Ballantyne passed away suddenly, at the age of 57, on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. He was born on November 16, 1960, in Clearwater, FL, the son of Barbara Ballantyne. Christopher grew up in Dixon, IL, and resided in Prophetstown and Sterling before settling in Rockford for the past 13 years. Every July, Christopher and his wife, Elaine, enjoyed spending time at Camp Horizon in Hudson, IL, with the several friends that they met whom referred to as their second family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Elaine (nee Tharp) Ballantyne; father-in-law, James Tharp; sister-in-law, Diane (David) Palmer; brother-in-law, Paul (Deena) Tharp; foster siblings, Neil (Joan) Styczynski, Mark (Ann) Styczynski, Lynn (Lenny) Greenberg, Jan (Lyle) Hagan, and Kris (Brent) Hoover; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and close friend, Janice Pinkston.

Preceded by his foster dad, Russell Fullerton; foster grandparents, Earl and Isabel Detweiler; and mother-in-law, Norma Tharp.

A visitation for Christopher Ballantyne will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL. As it was his wish, cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Journey Church Ministries, 7825 Forest Hills Rd, Loves Park, IL.
