North Hills Garden Club to host holiday home tour Dec. 10

News Sentinel staff

The North Hills Garden Club is hosting a holiday home tour  4-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, in the historic North Hills neighborhood just north of downtown Knoxville.

This event has been a neighborhood tradition for more than 20 years. The ticketed tour will feature seven homes, each decorated for the holidays. The event also swings by Washington Pike United Methodist Church and nearby fire station No. 11, separate from the holiday tour and free of charge.

This home tour offers a glimpse inside the history and architecture of the North Hills neighborhood, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. There are 130 houses within the historic district of this early automobile-oriented Knoxville subdivision. Built between 1928 and 1940, the houses on the tour represent architectural styles ranging from Craftsman to English Cottage to Tudor to Tuscan Revival. During the spring, the neighborhood’s tree-lined boulevards are home to an official Dogwood Trail.

The cost for admission is $12 at the door or $10 in advance when purchased from a North Hills Garden Club member or by PayPal.

Tickets should be picked up on the day of the tour between 3:45-7:15 p.m. at the kiosk at 1726 North Hills Blvd. Children younger than 12 years old will be admitted free, and refreshments will be served at each home.

Proceeds from the tour support beautification of the neighborhood’s boulevards and park. For more information on the North Hills Garden Club, including details on the home tour, visit the club’s Facebook page or the club’s official website.

Established in 1935, the North Hills Garden Club is one of Knoxville's oldest garden clubs. The club promotes the beautification of the North Hills Community and creates a community spirit through participation in civic, educational and social activities. North Hills is a residential neighborhood in north Knoxville and was established in 1927.
