One person suffered serious injuries Thursday in a head-on collision with a dump truck.

The crash happened around 12:40 p.m. on Howard Avenue, south of 7th Concession Road, in Tecumseh.

Essex County OPP said late Thursday afternoon that Howard Avenue would be closed between 7th Concession and County Road 7 for several hours.

Police said an SUV heading south crossed the centre line and collided with the northbound dump truck. The SUV driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A dog that was riding in the SUV escaped unscathed and was handed over to a family member of the driver.

The dump truck driver was not hurt.
