Truckers split a pair in Medina
Apr. 11—MEDINA — The Norwalk baseball team split a pair of non-conference games on Saturday in a three-team doubleheader at Medina Buckeye.
The Truckers (6-4) opened with a 13-3 win in six innings over Keystone, then were held to two hits in a 10-4 loss to host Buckeye.
In the win over Keystone (4-6), Norwalk went ahead 4-2 after a three-run third, then blew it open with a seven-run fifth inning to go up 11-3.
Leadoff hitter Sam Battles was 4 for 5 with a double, three RBIs and scored three runs to anchor the Norwalk lineup. Eli Obringer was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and also scored twice, while Isaac Scheel was 2 for 4 with an RBI and scored twice.
Thomas Gfell and Caleb Sommers each went 2 for 4 with a run, while Nate Adelman and Buddy Baker each singled and drove in a run.
Kelton Chapin and Andrew Bundschuch also each singled and scored for Norwalk.
Baker went all six innings on the mound for the Truckers, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
In the loss to the Bucks (5-0), a pair of singles by Sommers and Ian Minor were the lone hits for the Truckers, though Adelman, Minor and Scheel each reached base on two walks.
Looking to spread out the pitching ahead of Monday's home SBC Lake game vs. Sandusky, the Truckers threw Sommers, Adelman and Sam Tokarsky over the six innings. The trio allowed 10 runs (seven earned) on 11 hits with five strikeouts and seven walks.

MONROEVILLE — The Eagles fell to 0-6 overall following a doubleheader sweep by the visiting Raiders in non-league action on Saturday at Clark Park.
Monroeville was paced by Meritt Key's two singles in the first game, a 7-1 loss. Duncan Steward, Trevor Schafer and Brayden Bodkin each added singles, while Toby Tester drove in a run. Gavin Hauler pitched six innings in the defeat, allowing seven earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
In the second game, the Raiders took a 5-2 lead into the fourth inning, then scored eight runs over the final two innings to win by the run rule.
Tester and Austin Nichols each had a single and an RBI, while Key had a double, and Steward and Schafer each singled and scored.

GREENWICH — The Trojans fell to 4-4 with Saturday's non-league loss to the visiting Warriors.
Sam Seidel hit a solo home run for South Central, and Carson Music and Eric Sanders each added singles.
