Admitting that right now he's just enjoying his 'Firefly' reunion, Whedon states, 'I have not come to a decision on directing Avengers 2 yet.'

AceShowbiz - Despite the walloping success earned by "The Avengers", director Joss Whedon is not sure whether he will return to helm the sequel or not. The "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator opens up at Comic-Con on Friday, July 13 that he has not committed to get back to the directing seat for "The Avengers 2".
"I have not come to a decision on directing Avengers 2 yet," the New Yorker says during a press conference for "Firefly" 10-year anniversary panel. "I am having too much fun with this [Firefly reunion] now," he adds, as quoted by Deadline.
Though admitting that he's having fun with the reunion, Whedon claims that he still has no plan to adapt "Firefly" to the big screen or to reboot it to a new TV series. "We could shoot something on my phone right now," he jokes.
This is not the first time the 48-year-old filmmaker opens up that he remains undecided about returning to "Avengers" sequel. Back in May, he hinted at the possibility to bow out of the Earth's Mightiest Heroes film franchise despite already having a bunch of "cool" ideas for the follow-up flick.
"You know, I'm very torn," he confessed to Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex. "It's an enormous amount of work telling what is ultimately somebody else's story, even though I feel like I did get to put myself into it. But at the same time, I have a bunch of ideas, and they all seem really cool."
"Avengers" becomes the third-highest-grossing film of all time to date as it successfully grossed $1.46 billion worldwide. The plan to develop the sequel was announced in less than a week after the first movie was released on May 4. Back then, Walt Disney Pictures CEO Bob Iger stopped by CNBC to confirm the upcoming project, stating, "The Avengers isn't just a film. It's a franchise from our perspective."
"Obviously, it was helped a lot by the success of 'Iron Man' movies and of 'Thor' and 'Captain America'," Iger continued. "From 'The Avengers' we get a chance to make 'Thor 2' and 'Captain America 2' and 'Iron Man 3' and hopefully another 'Avengers' movie. So this one film that is immensely successful... is going to get a number of other films and franchises."
