“So I really did feel the pressure…but now, it’s okay,  not so much anymore because hindi naman talaga fame ang habol ko. (I am not after fame.) Its more if I do get famous, if I get to that stage, I want to be the real Kylie – the flaws, with the pagkakamali (mistakes) and if I get hated for it, it’s okay,” she told reporters at a recent press conference. 

The Padilla family is synonymous with action stardom. Her father Robin is known as the “Bad Boy” of Philippine cinema. Uncles Royette and Rommel are also known in the action genre, while Rustom (now BB Gandanghari) divided his time between action and romantic films. 

When it comes to being compared to her family as well as her equally famous cousin Daniel, Kylie takes it all in stride, saying that what the want to do in their careers are different. 

“…binibiro ko lang. Hindi naman niya nilalagay sa isip niya na siya si Daniel. Matino naman siyang kausap,” Kylie said of her cousin known as the “Teen King.”

(But I do tease him about it. It’s not going to his head that he’s Daniel. He’s okay to talk to.)

Leonor Rivera and Seasons album

From appearing in Joaquin Bordado, which starred her father Robin, to the fantasy drama Adarna, Kylie was hailed as an action princess because of her martial arts background – she’s skilled in Muay Thai, Wushu and Arnis. But her new role as Jose Rizal’s love interest Leonor Rivera in Ilustrado challenges Kylie to deliver more than the the action stunts she already does well. 

In playing Leonor Rivera, Kylie said she made sure to tackle the role very differently, knowing that many have previously taken on the role of Jose Rizal’s love. 

She said that she took a light approach to the character, after talking about it with the director, saying that Leonor is “still a young Filipina lady that is soft-spoken, playful the way she talks, and not too serious.”

The show, also starring Alden Richards, tells the story of Jose Rizal’s life abroad, the struggles of his family, and the women in his life.  

Unknown to many, Kylie is also a musician, having released an album called Seasons. The album contains the song “Gitara,” which she wrote and composed.

When asked about her career as a singer, Kylie said that music is an outlet for her.

“I love music. Kung wala akong ginagawa (If I have nothing to do), I always sing, write and read music,” she said. 

According to her, she got her love for music from both sides of the family. Kylie’s favorite singers include Lana del Rey and Lorde.

Aside from singing, Kylie is also a makeup artist, posting her tutorials on YouTube. Her make-up skills was featured in the October issue of Preview Magazine. 

“I fell in love with makeup because of K-pop,” Kylie said, citing Girls Generation and 2NE1 as her favorite Korean groups. 

On top of being a makeup artist, Kylie also paints and is into aerial dancing. 

Robin Padilla and showbiz plans

As the daughter of Robin Padilla, Kylie knows that people expect so much from her. Kylie said she understands why her father is always reminding her to be on guard, and why he’s protective of her.

“I think it’s normal for a dad lalo nasa showbiz ang anak (especially when the child is in showbiz). And for our generation, if you want to get somewhere, mag-papasexy, (do sexy roles) take of your clothes. I think natatakot si Papa na umabot sa ganon (I think Papa is afraid that it would to that level). But I don’t plan on doing that,” she said.

What advice has her father given her aside from loving the craft?

“Be professional, treat the people on set humanely and keep yourself grounded.”

Given the chance, Kylie would like to work with Dennis Trillo and Jericho Rosales in future projects. She would also like to do comedy, saying “ I do have a weird sense of humor.” 

Now that she is slowly gaining a name for herself in the industry, Kylie said that she knows it’s a long climb to the top in showbiz.

“Mas brave na ako (I am more brave). and I know who really I am really. I am growing into a woman,” she said.

Turning serious, Kylied added: “Twenty-one pa lang ako ( I am 21) and I see more changes in my life. I am just discovering myself.” – Rappler.com
