Chris Berman will call the second game of the 'Monday Night Football' season opening doubleheader again

Boomer and Trent Dilfer get the assignment for a second consecutive year.

The second game of the season-opening Monday Night Football doubleheader has become a place for ESPN to mess around a little bit. They've tried somewhat gimmicky broadcast teams (Mike & Mike, anybody?) and other various voices (Dick Vermeil, Steve Young). Last year, they gave one of the signature faces of ESPN the gig, and he's holding onto it for a second straight year.

Chris Berman and Trent Dilfer will again work the second game of MNF on Monday, Sept. 10. After calling Chargers-Raiders last year, they will work Texans-Chargers this season. It will be Berman's second and Dilfer's fourth turn in the booth working the No. 2 game.

10.45 million viewers watched last year's second game, with Berman drawing mostly indifferent reviews, replacing current Thursday Night Football play-by-play man Brad Nessler. Monday Night Countdown will likely have a different host for the opening week. Suzy Kolber served in place of Berman during Week 1 last season. Sideline reporters have not yet been announced for the game.
