HAYWARD — Jennifer Ott has been named deputy city manager of Hayward, where her responsibilities will include redevelopment strategy and negotiations, overseeing community services and housing and economic development.

Hayward City Manager Kelly McAdoo announced the appointment of Ott, who has served in several top posts in the city of Alameda, on Tuesday. She will begin her new job Sept. 17.

“I am incredibly honored to be getting this chance to serve such a vibrant and diverse community, and to join an organization that values innovation and is committed to caring, openness and integrity,” Ott said in a statement.

Ott most recently served as acting assistant city manager in Alameda, where her duties also included overseeing redevelopment of the former Alameda Naval Air Station.

“I am tremendously excited to have someone of Jennifer’s experience and expertise join us at such a strategically important time,” McAdoo said. “We are entering a period of great transformation and opportunity, and Jennifer can help us maximize the benefits for the entire Hayward community.”

Ott earned a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Arts in history and Spanish from the University of California, Davis.

Before beginning work in Alameda in March 2005, Ott was a vice president at Economic & Planning Systems of Berkeley, a land-use policy and real estate development consultancy to local governments and private developers.
