Pretty Little Liars star Keegan Allen, a.k.a. Toby Cavanaugh on the hit Freeform show, is heading to a new town, and it has nothing to do with “A,” Spencer, or Rosewood.
Variety reports that Keegan has been cast in a reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger — yes, that ‘90s TV show starring Chuck Norris — set to premiere on the CW, and the two actors will play siblings. Keegan’s character, Liam Walker, is the younger brother of Jared’s Cordell Walker, who “returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years.”
Keegan’s character is described as gay and conservative and has been a father figure to Cordell’s two children while their father was absent. “Liam and Walker are close, but Liam gives his brother no shortage of tough love. Liam has always stayed close to home, often sacrificing his personal life in favor of his family duties,” Variety reports. “In Walker’s absence, he stepped up to take Walker’s kids under his wing. Liam’s close relationship with Walker’s son and daughter makes Walker slightly jealous.”
Since PLL wrapped, Keegan has appeared in a few TV episodes, including Rick & Morty, but Walker, Texas Ranger is his first big project since his time as Toby Cavanaugh ended.
Jared Padalecki is himself fresh off a run on a very successful CW show, Supernatural, which is set to end its epic 15-season run this spring. The whole “brotherly dynamic” thing should be second nature to him by now, considering Supernatural was all about monster-hunting siblings. While we’re sad to say goodbye to Sam and Dean Winchester, we have no doubt that Jared will do a killer job as the iconic Cordell Walker.
EW reports that the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot has yet to begin filming, but we’re ready to see two of our faves bring new characters to life.
