WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) — The annual “Drums Along the Waterfront – Tour of Champions” takes center-field at Ralph Wilson Sunday on Sunday night. The top seven drum corps in the world will be competing.

“It’s not like college marching band or your local marching band – it’s like a marching band on steroids, it will be the craziest best thing you’ll ever see, with giant props and people performing in ways that you have never seen before on a marching band field.”, said Genevieve Geisler, Director of operations, Bluecoats.

The Bluecoats travel all over the country to perform and compete. The team spent the day at West Seneca East High School Preparing for their big day at the Ralph. To join a team like the Bluecoats, it’s a 2-step audition process, they only take the best of the best.

The team is made up of people from all parts of the country, but for one team member, he’s right at home. Matthew Tichy is from Lancaster. He plays the baritone and the trombone.

Tichy said, “This is my first year with the Bluecoats, my 2nd year of drum corp marching itself. I marched with the Bluestars from Lacrosse Wisconsin last year, this is my first year with the Bluecoats and my final year because I will age out this year.”

Tichy says he can’t wait until his team takes the field on Sunday night.

“It’s literally a dream come true, when I was in high school and middle school I used to watch the show and dream that I would be able to do that myself, to be able to come back and share the activity that I love with the family and friends that I love.”
