The Lakers apparently are not waiting around for Dwight Howard to make up his mind in their search for a big man.

Free agent Antawn Jamison reportedly has decided to join the Lakers, according to the Charlotte Observer. Jamison, who played at North Carolina, had been in talks with the Bobcats, but instead decided to pursue a championship with the Lakers.

The Lakers, who remain in the Howard sweepstakes, have been searching for a back-up big man and had considered Elton Brand and Jermaine O’Neal in addition to Jamison.

Jamison, 36, averaged 17.2 points and had 6.3 rebounds, but shot a season-low 40.8 percent from the field last season for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Jamison will be the second veteran free agent the Lakers have landed. Last week, they officially signed point guard Steve Nash, 38.
