UPDATE: Westbound Glendale Avenue near the Loop 101 has reopened after being closed for several hours Wednesday following a suicide.

The westbound lanes had been shut down in the early afternoon after a man jumped off a bridge over Glendale Avenue, according to a Glendale police spokesman.

The suicide also caused traffic restrictions on Loop 101, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation, and transportation officials were encouraging motorists to consider using exits at Bethany Home Road or Camelback Road.

A Glendale Police tweet announcing that westbound Glendale Avenue was open did not include information on the status of the Loop 101 restrictions.

Drivers should expect delays throughout the afternoon, according to law-enforcement and transportation officials.

The suicide occurred on World Suicide Prevention Day, when organizations around the world call attention to the topic and highlight available resources.
