Brock Lesnar back to the UFC? Dana White responds (again) to latest talk

Every once in a while, Brock Lesnar’s name pops back up in UFC circles, whether there’s credence to rumors of his return or not.

It happened earlier this year, when UFC President Dana White said Lesnar probably regretted not being able to compete 100 percent healthy while in the UFC – and maybe, just maybe, he’d be interested in returning to the company.

Then Alistair Overeem called out the former UFC champ, now working in the WWE, after his win over Frank Mir. That forced White to respond to the many questions – again – about a potential Lesnar return.

After a bit of a lull, once again the topic has reared its head. Former WWE play-by-play voice Jim Ross told FOXSports.com he believes Lesnar could return to the UFC and headline pay-per-views again. Ross is no stranger to MMA, having recently done play-by-play work for Battlegrounds MMA, and attending UFC Fight Night 49 in Tulsa in August.

But White told UFC.com he talks to Lesnar frequently, and it’s not as if the topic of his return is what they discuss.

“I have a great relationship with Brock, we talk all the time,” White told the site. “I don’t know, we’ll see. If he wants to fight, he knows my number. It’s pretty amazing what he did and accomplished here while having diverticulitis. It would be interesting to see a 100 percent healthy Brock Lesnar compete.”

The bouts with diverticulitis, which doctors categorized as life-threatening at one point, ultimately spoiled the tail end of Lesnar’s UFC career, when he dropped his title to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 and suffered a subsequent loss to Overeem at UFC 141. After the defeats, Lesnar announced his retirement and then returned to WWE, where he remains one of the company’s bigger stars.
