San Antonio Missions News Release

In the opener of the final series ever between the clubs at Wolff Stadium, San Antonio rode a trio of right handers and the bat of Ty France to a 4-0 win over Midland.

Runs were at a premium for most of Sunday's series opener, but in the first, the Missions started strong against righty Brian Howard. Eguy Rosario, appearing in his first home contest since arriving from High-A, started the rally with a one-out walk. After Howard got a Josh Naylor groundout, France put the Missions up 2-0 when he belted a homer deep onto the berm in left. It was the 13th dinger of the season for France.

The Missions' third baseman pushed the lead to 3-0 in fifth against Howard (0-2) with a productive fielder's choice.

San Antonio tacked on one more the following inning against righty John Gorman when Rosario singled in Peter Van Gansen from second.

The rest of the night belonged to the Missions' pitching staff. Lake Bachar started the night with three innings of one-hit ball. Richie Martin's leadoff single in the second turned out to be the lone Midland hit on the night.

That's because Miguel Diaz (4-2) followed with five impressive innings during which he worked around three walks, while striking out four. T.J. Weir finished San Antonio's league-high 10th shutout of the season with a perfect ninth.

San Antonio (12-10, 54-38) and Midland (6-17, 39-53) resume their four-game series Monday with a special 11:05 AM start time on H-E-B Family Day presented by ESPN SA 1250 AM/94.5 FM. Fans can purchase four box seats for just $24 at the Missions Box Office with a receipt from H-E-B. Jesse Scholtens (5-1, 2.53) will get the ball for the Missions Monday, while the "Hounds counter with fellow righty Joel Seddon (4-5, 5.02).
