A new weight class and short-notice opponent didn’t stop Donald Cerrone from delivering one of the best performances of his career at UFC Fight Night 83.
Cerrone (29-7 MMA, 16-4 UFC) moved away from his striking game against Alex Oliveira (13-3-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) in the welterweight headliner in Pittsburgh and opted to take the fight to the ground. That decision paid off because he quickly locked up a slick triangle choke to earn the submission and finish.
Although “Cowboy” suffered a decisive loss to 155-pound chap Rafael dos Anjos in December, he managed to get his momentum right back by jumping to 170 pounds and stopping Oliveira.
