'He was a big gentle giant, non-confrontational. He was just about his kids, his family and helping people achieve their goals,' the victim's brother-in-law, DaShaun Thomas, explained to KABC.
Walter and Thomas co-founded the DTermined Athletics in Corona. They both coached aspiring young athletes.
Thomas added: 'What I would want to say to the killer is, I don't know what his motives were, but he damaged a generation of kids, as well. Not just Claudell's kids - but hundreds, thousands of kids.'

The coach shared that Walter had been coaching his teams in Orange County, prior to the fatal shooting.
A memorial has been made in front of the coach's home consisting of flowers and candles.
'I don't even think as a family that we've had a chance to grieve as we would, like because there is so much energy as to why? Why would this happen to him?' Thomas said.
Police are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
On Facebook, DTermined Basketball said that Walter put his 'heart and soul into the next generation'.
'We are very saddened by this, because of his impact on our program, and athletes from all over the world,' they said in a post. 'He was very passionate and always had a smile on his face.'
They later added: 'This is a very hard pill to swallow. It’s so sad the something so cruel can happen to such a great person.'
