The owner of the food-truck-turned-restaurant in the North Quarter is closing down to focus back on the original concept.

Caro-Bama owner Brandon Gantt said the restaurant’s last day of business would be Friday, May 24, at the North Quarter Market. North Quarter Market is a shared retail and restaurant space with Credo Coffee and Wondermade marshmallows.

Caro-Bama BBQ opened just over a year ago at the space at 885 N. Orange Ave., slinging its blend of Carolina and Alabama pulled pork, brisket and chicken sandwiches paired with Alabama white sauce and other toppings.

“It’s strictly a family decision,” Gantt said. “I’ve been running the truck full-time and my wife has taken over the restaurant, but we need more time for our family.”

Caro-Bama will continue to operate its food truck and catering operations, he said.

While the restaurant was making money, he said it wasn’t enough to justify the expense of hiring a full-time manager to run it.

“We had some good employees and some great customers that would eat with us a few days a week,” Gantt said. “That’s what we are really going to miss.”

A new tenant for the shared spot has not been announced.
