Lisa Ray reveals that her life so far has been a roller-coaster ride

The Indian-Canadian actor Lisa Ray has published her own memoir recently. Read more to know about how she opened up about her cancer diagnosis and her life

Lisa Ray is an Indian-Canadian model, actor and author. She is also a philanthropist and social activist. Lisa made her acting debut in the Indian Film Industry with her role in the Tamil film, Nethaji in the year 1994. She also appeared in a few Bollywood films, such as the 2001 Aftab Shivdasani-starrer Kasoor. In the year 2005, she appeared in the Canadian film Water, which was directed by Deepa Mehta and also featured John Abraham. She is also the author of the memoir, Close To The Bone, which talks about the struggles of her life as she fought against cancer.

Reportedly, in the book, Lisa opened up about her cancer diagnosis. She said that her doctor was scared because after he announced the news of her multiple myeloma she did not react. Her doctor later added that the cancer was incurable and fatal, but that also failed to elicit a reaction from Lisa. She said that while the doctor was breaking the news to her, she was thinking about how her body had been trying to give her signals for months but she had been avoiding the signs. Lisa Ray stated that had an intuition that there was something wrong but she did not have the courage to do anything about this because she had trained herself to ignore what her body told her.

Lisa also revealed that how in her life, the opportunities she has received have come along with some traumatic experience. Like in 1991, when she was a teenager, had her first major photo-shoot in Bombay, but her family was involved in an accident in Toronto, which left her mother in a paralyzed state. She also spoke about how she never really aspired to be a model or actor and just followed with what came her way. Her deep and inherent passion was to write, which she was glad to accomplish when her memoir got published.
