Detroit Woman Found In Burning Van Was Missing Limbs, Shot Multiple Times [VIDEO]

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are turning to the public for help as they hunt down a killer who dismembered a woman and left the remains inside a burning van on Detroit's west side.

Authorities say the remains of 20-year-old Rhonda Davis were positively identified this week by dental records provided by her family.

Davis' charred body was discovered around 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 3 inside a still-burning vehicle on Kendall and Westbrook streets, near I-96 and Outer Drive.

The remains were burned beyond recognition without an obvious cause of death -- but investigators are now saying that Davis had been shot several times, and her arms and legs were missing.

Davis' van, a 2002 silver Plymouth Voyager, was seen driving in the area of Outer Drive and Schoolcraft Road shortly before the fire, and authorities think her killer might have been behind the wheel. Police have released security footage taken in the area that shows Davis' van. (The white Ford Taurus in the video is not involved)

Davis previously spent time in the Oakland County Jail for armed robbery -- a crime her family says she was falsely accused of. Her time behind bars affected her significantly, according to reports, and left her distant from relatives who often had difficulty finding Davis and the people she was with following her release.

Reports also indicate that Davis was involved with a man who allegedly physically assaulted her just before Christmas. However, it doesn't appear that a police report was ever filed and family members claim they never met the man, described by some as Davis' boyfriend.

No arrests have been made in the case, or suspects publically identified.

Investigators say they are following leads but still need the public's help to solve the case. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
