The winter weather is even effecting some Kentuckians who are outside of the Bluegrass.

Heavy snow around Pennsylvania Thursday left about 50 Morehead State alumni and friends stranded on their way back from New York City. The group says they left the city around 9 a.m., but what should've taken three hours of travel time turned into five.

"We ended up stopping for lunch and over the course of an hour we noticed businesses in the shopping area we were shutting their doors because of the storm. So in that short amount of time we made the decision that it wasn't safe to get back on the road and decided to stay, and it was a great timing because 15 minutes later we got word that they were shutting down the portion of the interstate that we would have had to get back on to continue our journey," said Morehead State alumni Jessi Ferguson.

The group hopes the interstate will be reopened by the morning so they can continue their trip back home to the commonwealth.
