The AP released their preseason top 25 poll for college football this afternoon, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are currently ranked #12 according to the voters.
This falls somewhat in line with what the coaches poll put out a while back ago when they ranked Notre Dame #11. For the Irish, the biggest difference is that the Michigan State Spartans flip-flopped the 11 and 12 spots with Notre Dame.
Seems kind of silly to me after Notre Dame beat their ass in East Lansing last year (but whatever).
This still means that Notre Dame will start the season ranked higher than any team that they play in 2018. Opponent rankings in the AP Poll are:
- Stanford Cardinal #13
- Michigan Wolverines #14
- USC Trojans #15
- Florida State Seminoles #19
- Virginia Tech Hokies #20
- Northwestern Wildcats #35 with “Others receiving votes”
The Irish certainly have their work cut out for them this season with so many quality opponents, and a ton of time traveling. Notre Dame only has one home game in October (Pittsburgh Panthers) and one in November (Florida State).
