Spring Arbor University celebrates Black History Month with 'The Old Settler'

SPRING ARBOR TWP., MI - Spring Arbor University will celebrate Black History Month with a showing of "The Old Settler."

SAU Hearts Drama will perform the play by John Henry Redwood at 7:30 p.m. on Feb 20, 22 and 23, at the university's Prop Shop, 106 E. Main St.

Two more showings are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Feb. 24 and 25.

"The Old Settler" follows two middle-aged African-American sisters as they adjust to city life in Harlem during World War II.

"This is a celebratory offering, expressing the joys and sorrows of the African-American experience during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1940s," said Paul Patton, producer of the play, in a release.

The event is open to the public.

General admission is $8. Tickets for students, staff, faculty and alumni are $5.
