For this season, Wimberley players and fans wear a shirt that says “University through Adversity,” and the Texans are paying heed with their 10th-straight win, beating Cuero 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 as Paige Crawford slammed 12 kills and served two aces. Jordan McFarland doled out 24 assists and Rhyan Masur recorded 20 digs. Earlier in the week, the Texans swept Gateway Prep 25-9, 25-16, 25-10 as Holly Harwood led the Wimberley attack with eight kills and seven aces while Crawford, Riley German and Brina Jones all had timely kills in the one-sided victory. Masur led the defense with 12 digs, and McFarland had 22 assists. Despite the loss, Gateway had several players with strong matches including Trejehl Henry, Lola Nolasco and Emily Thompson.

Jarrell has won three straight matches including an impressive win over Robinson as Reina Lawson had 37 assists, 14 digs and 13 kills to lead the Cougars in a 19-25, 26-24, 25-17, 23-25, 15-7 victory. Joining Lawson defensively were teammates Mollie Berumen (19 digs), Alexiz Quintanilla (15 digs), Macy Taber (15 digs) and Aaryianna Wyss (seven digs). The Jarrell total of more than 70 digs in a match is a top-10 effort statewide so far this season. While Lawson led the offense with her 13 kills, both Rachel White and Taber had 10 kills each while Quintanilla notched seven kills and Wyss finished with six kills. Alyssa Bel also had six kills for the Cougars.

Defending TAPPS class 3A Round Rock Christian opened their season at 3-1 including a second-place finish in the San Antonio Christian round robin event that featured teams that went to the TAPPS State last year.

After opening their season by beating Hyde Park 25-21, 25-20, 25-22, the Crusaders went to San Antonio where they lost to the eventual tournament champions, San Antonio Christian 25-12, 13-25, 25-20 but defeated New Braunfels Christian and San Antonio Holy Cross.

Smithville beat Taylor 25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 25-9 despite eight kills by Taylor’s Mackenzie Watson and five from Kiera Van Brocklin.Aniston Silverthorn had 12 assists while Sarah Vrabel had 22 digs for the Ducks. Giddings lost a tough first set to Navasota but rallied to win 27-29, 25-14, 25-20, 25-22. St. Michael’s Academy lost to Boerne Geneva 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 despite Liz Bruegging finishing with three service aces and 10 digs. Brinkley Barker had 10 kills for the Crusaders.
