Barbra Streisand made her first visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday, where she discussed her new Netflix special, Barbra: The Music … the Mem’ries … the Magic! and played a game to celebrate her special visit.
“I can’t believe you haven’t been here before. It’s only been 15 years,” DeGeneres joked to Streisand, only to further quip about the honor of having the singer on her show. To make Streisand comfortable, DeGeneres switched seating arrangements with the singer, due to Streisand favoring the left side of her face the most.
On hand to discuss her upcoming Netflix special debuting Wednesday, Streisand explained how she saw the special as an opportunity to “document the work.”
“I think it’s good to document the work. Since it takes about three months to prepare a show, why not document it?” Streisand said.
Streisand also explained that the special benefited her “stage fright.”
“What’s wonderful is I don’t enjoy performing… I always have a bit of stage fright. It’s not a comfortable feeling. And so, this is great because Netflix, for $10 a month, the whole family could see any show and I don’t have to perform it,” Streisand joked.
Despite admitting that she won’t tour again, Streisand assures that doesn’t mean she’s in retirement. “I’m not retiring, because I still want to direct movies. That’s what I love and I still like to make records,” Streisand told DeGeneres.
DeGeneres then segued into showing the trailer for Streisand’s Netflix special, only to surprise the singer with a special appearance. “The original trailer that I was a part of did not air,” DeGeneres said, leaving Streisand to appear confused and respond, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
DeGeneres then showed the mock-trailer, where DeGeneres is seen recording with Streisand while the singer complimented her for looking “radiant” and having an “amazing voice.” Dressed in a wig and costume, DeGeneres rapped a song, before joining a Streisand look-a-like in a duet. The host comically sang along, while attempting to harmonize with Streisand’s voice.

After showing the mock-trailer, Streisand stood and applauded DeGeneres, calling it “hysterical.” “You know, if you told me you could’ve sung like that, I would’ve had you on my album and you could’ve toured with me,” Streisand told DeGeneres, only for the host to tell the singer “it’s too late.”
Aware of Streisand’s dislike for interviews, DeGeneres decided to try to have fun with the singer by playing a game dubbed, “Barbra, Can You Answer Me?” In the game, DeGeneres comical questions and instructed the singer to respond with the first thing that came to her mind.
“How many living presidents’ numbers do you have in your phone?” DeGeneres asked, with Streisand admitting to only having one. DeGeneres continued to ask other comical questions such as, what the singer’s favorite swear word is and whether she’s ever been to a Chili’s, Applebee’s, Olive Garden or Outback restaurants.
