Pittsburgh Penguins spoof Elf for holiday video
The Pittsburgh Penguins generally go all-in on their holiday videos. In the past they’ve spoofed “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” and “Home Alone.”
This year they went with the Will Ferrell classic “Elf” and made several players dress as Buddy, the lead character who is played by Ferrell in the film.
One scene included Evgeni Malkin saying “I’m not an elf.”
Another scene showed Sidney Crosby taking a snowball in the face and yelling “son of a nutcracker.”
Patric Hornqvist may have done the best job acting, telling Santa Claus that he “sits on a throne of lies.”
Phil Kessel played the Gimbels manager as portrayed in the movie by Faizon Love.
Buddy’s father Walter is played by Matt Cullen. In the film, James Caan played this role.
Jovie, who is portrayed by Zooey Deschanel in the movie, is played by sideline reporter Dan Potash in the Penguins vid.
Papa Elf is portrayed by team general manager Jim Rutherford. In the film, Bob Newhart plays this role.
There are also several other funny parts with other team members, such as assistant general manager Bill Guerin donning a beard and red suit as Santa Claus.
Overall it’s another solid job by the Penguins to bring some humor and cheer to the holiday season.
