A warrant has been issued for Aaron Gillespie after police say surveillance video captured him breaking into several Bellevue businesses.

Surveillance video captured the moment a red Chevy truck pulled up to Avery Plaza in Bellevue. A man is seen walking around the building. He eventually looked right into the camera, as he was taking a smoke break. With such a clear image, police later identified him as Aaron Gillespie.

“You can see the hole where he shot through and it hit the scale on my desk,” said Jerome McDonald, manager of J and J Coins. Police say Gillespie shot through his window in an attempt to get in.

The suspect also tried to pry the door. He couldn't get in because of a deadbolt. Then the security camera is knocked out of place.

“Makes you wonder how bad off this guy has to be to use a weapon to break into someone else's place,” said McDonald.

Moments later, across the street, police say Gillespie climbed onto an easier and much larger target. He jumped onto $32,000 excavator at Avery Rents and took off.

“He drove right across the grass. Took off over the street and up into the bank parking lot and loaded it on his trailer, and he was gone,” said John Denton, who was still in shock as one of their more expensive pieces of equipment was gone.

“It's tough for small business owners to get by when we have people like this running around and it's a real shame,” said Denton. Businesses are thankful, however, that this burglar was caught on camera.

Someone also stole a trailer from a nearby business that same night. Police haven't been able to confirm if it's the same one used in the excavator theft.
