Here are the recaps for every match from Friday at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play at Austin Country Club.

These recaps include information on who advanced out of each group to the Round of 16. Here you go:

Group 1

*Kevin Kisner (2-0-1) def. Dustin Johnson (0-3), 4 and 3

This was a smooth victory for Kiz, who faced a World No. 1 who was already eliminated before this match. Kisner’s decisive win put him in position to move to the Round of 16, but he was not there yet! If Hadwin won his match, there would be a playoff. A Hadwin halve or loss meant Kisner advanced. As you’ll see below, Hadwin halved. That meant Kiz was moving on!

Adam Hadwin (1-0-2) vs. Bernd Wiesberger (1-1-1), halved

Hadwin came to the final hole 1 up and just needed to halve the hole or better to win the match and force a playoff with Kisner. But Wiesberger dropped a birdie on him and Hadwin couldn’t match. That meant the match was halved and Hadwin was eliminated.

Group 2

*Justin Thomas (3-0) def. Francesco Molinari (2-1), 7 and 5

Yeah, JT is pretty good. He won the first two holes of this match and four of the first five. He was 3 up, as Molinari won the third. But by the end of the front nine, Thomas was 5 up with five birdies on the round. He kept hammering down with a birdie on 10 to move 6 up. He had an 8-footer for eagle at No. 12 to win the match. That didn’t drop, but he closed out a hole later. Thomas came into the day needing not to lose in order to advance to the Round of 16. He made sure he won, emphatically. He enters the weekend knowing that if he can win this week, he’ll be World No. 1.

Patton Kizzire (1-2) def. Luke List (0-3), 4 and 2

Both of these guys were eliminated to start the day. List took the first lead with a birdie at No. 5 to move 1 up. But Kizzire eagled the sixth to square it. List then won the seventh, but Kizzire took four straight from Nos. 8-11 to move 3 up. That eventually led to a comfortable win. But both are indeed packing before the weekend.

*Thomas wins group, advances to Round of 16

Group 3

*Kiradech Aphibarnrat (3-0) def. Jon Rahm (0-2-1), 4 and 3

After halves on the first three holes, Aphibarnrat took command. A birdie at the fourth moved him 1 up, and he was 3 up by the turn. He then drained a 20-footer for birdie at the 14th to win the hole and move dormie-4. At that point, he’d already advanced to the Round of 16 as he was guaranteed at least a halve in the match. But Aphibarnrat decided to win the match anyway with a par at 15. He goes undefeated in pool play and is onto the weekend.

Chez Reavie (1-1-1) vs. Keegan Bradley (0-1-2), halved

This match was ultimately meaningless down the stretch as Aphibarnrat had already clinched winning the group. But this was a well-fought match! Bradley won the first hole with a birdie and was 2 up with another at the fourth. But Reavie won the sixth with eagle and earned a birdie at No. 10 to win that hole and square the match. Bradley moved back 1 up with a birdie at 16. But Reavie drained one from 27 feet from off the green for birdie to win the 18th and halve the match. A good finish, but he (and Bradley) are eliminated anyway.

*Aphibarnrat wins group, advances to Round of 16

Group 4

*Patrick Reed (3-0) def. Jordan Spieth (2-1), 2 and 1

Well, this one went a little differently than we thought. Spieth started off the Friday tilt for a spot in the Round of 16 with some extreme sloppiness. He flailed his opening tee shot out of bounds and pulled his approach at No. 2 into a hazard. A pair of opening double bogeys there allowed Reed to cruise to a 2-up lead.

Eventually, things got on track. By the 10th, Spieth was stuffing his approach to tap-in range for birdie and squaring the match. Reed didn’t back down. A Spieth bogey at 11 allowed Reed to move 1 up, and Reed birdied 13 to move 2 up. In fact, he nearly holed his second shot for eagle there, before being conceded a tap-in birdie. He was 3 up through 15 before Spieth took the 16th.

This match did end in classic fashion, though, as Reed drained a 40-footer from off the green at the par-3 17th to seal a 2-and-1 win. Reed takes this match that didn’t live up to the hype but offered some entertaining moments.

Charl Schwartzel (1-2) def. Haotong Li (0-3), 3 and 2

Schwartzel won the first hole and ended up closing out on 16 for his only victory of the week. Both these players were already eliminated prior to the match. So the outcome didn’t matter in terms of continuing on. Both are packing their bags.

*Reed wins group, advances to Round of 16

Group 5

Patrick Cantlay (2-1) def. Hideki Matsuyama (1-2), 4 and 3

Cantlay owned this match the whole way. He led every hole but one and never trailed. He was 2 up through three, was 3 up after eight and 4 up through 10. He eventually sealed it and had to wait. If Smith lost his match, Cantlay would get into a playoff for a spot in the Round of 16. A Smith halve or win, though, meant Smith advanced. Smith ended up halving to advance.

*Cameron Smith (2-0-1) vs. Yusaku Miyazato (0-2-1), halved

All Smith needed to advance was a halve, and he got it! Maybe a bit close for comfortable, but then again he was 2 down through nine and trailed almost the entire match. He was 1 down at the last but drained a 6-footer for birdie at the last to win the hole and halve the match. That’s moved him on to the Round of 16.

*Smith wins group, advances to Round of 16

Group 6

*Brian Harman (2-0-1) def. Rory McIlroy (1-2), 5 and 3

McIlroy didn’t play his best, but this is impressive stuff from Harman in a total beatdown. Harman took a 3-up lead as McIlroy struggled through the first nine holes. McIlroy would win the 12th, but Harman birdied Nos. 11 and 13 to win those holes and sit 4 up with five to play. He soon closed out to win the match, the group and eliminate McIlroy. A strong three days from Harman means we’ll see him in the Round of 16.

Peter Uihlein (2-1) def. Jhonattan Vegas (0-2-1), 4 and 3

Uihlein was impressive in this match and over three days, but he’s still going home. He took control of this match by winning the first two holes. After Vegas conceded the eighth, Uihlein was 4 up. He birdied the 15th to win the hole and the match, 4 and 3. As we said, it wasn’t enough. But Uihlein can leave knowing he beat McIlroy one-on-one Wednesday.

*Harman wins group, advances to Round of 16

Group 7

*Sergio Garcia (3-0) def. Xander Schauffele (2-1), 3 and 1

This appeared to be Schauffele’s match most of the way, but the tide turned late. The reigning PGA Tour Rookie of the Year birdied the second to move 1 up and led almost the entire front nine. He was in fact 2 up through 11. But Schauffele made a mess after hitting his second shot in the water at the par-5 12th. He lost the hole and then the 13th to fall to all square when Garcia birdied. Garcia then birdied 15 and 16 for four in five holes to move dormie-2. The match was essentially over after Schauffele went left into a hazard on 17 and was forced to drop back near the tee. The hole was eventually conceded. This appeared to be Schauffele’s day to advance to the Round of 16. An hour later, it was Garcia moving on by winning the group.

Dylan Frittelli (1-2) def. Shubhankar Sharma (0-3), 1 up

Both these guys were eliminated at the beginning of the day. Frittelli didn’t play like it, making five birdies in the first 12 holes to take a 3-up lead. Sharma briefly inspired hope of a comeback by birdieing 13 to cut the lead to two and then moving to 1 down with a birdie at 16. Ultimately, though, Frittelli closed out a 1-up win to go 1-2 for the week.

*Garcia wins group, advances to Round of 16

Group 8

*Louis Oosthuizen (2-1) def. Jason Day (1-2), 2 up

As good as Oosthuizen is, this was a bit of a surprise. He ekes this one out over Day to put himself in position. The win would get him into a playoff with Dufner for a Round of 16 spot. Dufner was sloppy on the first playoff hole, making bogey. Oosthuizen was, too, but he had a 12-footer for par to win the hole and advance to the Round of 16. He drilled it.

Jason Dufner (2-1) def. James Hahn (1-2), 3 and 2

Dufner cruised from the start in this match thanks to winning the first four holes. He needed to win to have any chance of advancing. Unfortunately for Dufner, the playoff to move on didn’t fall in his favor. Despite a 2-1 record, he is eliminated.

*Oosthuizen wins group, advances to Round of 16

Group 9

Tommy Fleetwood (2-1) def. Daniel Berger (0-3), 2 and 1

A nice win for Fleetwood, who captured the opening hole of this match. But with Chappell forfeiting so early to Poulter and thus Poulter winning the group at this point, this match proved to be pretty meaningless early.

*Ian Poulter (3-0) def. Kevin Chappell (1-2), WD

Chappell was having back issues and conceded this match about halfway through. That means Poulter wins the match, the group and advances to the Round of 16.

Group 10

Matt Fitzpatrick (1-2) def. Paul Casey (2-1), 3 and 2

Casey was always behind in this one. Fitzpatrick won the opening hole and was 3 up through five. He was never less than 2 up the remainder of the way. He still had that margin until he birdied 16, Casey couldn’t match and Fitzpatrick won the hole and the match. While Fitzpatrick was already eliminated, his win did prevent Casey still from reaching the Round of 16. Casey would’ve moved on with halve or win. With the loss, Casey had to participate in a playoff with Stanley for a spot in the Round of 16. He lost on the second playoff hole, and Stanley advanced.

*Kyle Stanley (2-1) def. Russell Henley (1-2), 1 up

Stanley birdied No. 1 to move 1 up but was 2 down after Henley birdied Nos. 3-5 to win all those holes. Stanley had fought back to all square after No. 9, though, and the match was still like that on the 18th. If either guy won the hole and the match, he would force a playoff in the group with Casey for a chance to move onto the Round of 16. Stanley did that by draining an 8-footer for birdie. In the playoff, Stanley had a 7-footer for birdie on the first extra hole to advance but missed. With a 5-footer for birdie for the win at the next, though, he drained it and sealed the deal to move on.

Group 11

Branden Grace (1-1-1) vs. Marc Leishman (0-2-1), halved

Leishman won the first two holes of this match, but Grace had squared it after a birdie at No. 3 and and an eagle at No. 5. Following some more back-and-forth, Leishman came to the 17th at 1 up. But Grace birdied that hole to square the match, and both birdied the last to end in a halve. Both are eliminated.

*Bubba Watson (2-0-1) vs. Julian Suri (1-1-1), halved

Bubba gave us a seriously impressive finish. Watson birdied Nos. 10 and 12 to win those holes and move 1 up, but Suri fired back with wins at Nos. 13, 15 and 16 to move dormie-2. Needing to win the final two holes to secure a halve and avoid a playoff with Suri to move on to the Round of 16, Watson delivered. He birdied No. 17 and won it after stuffing his tee shot inside 4 feet. Suri’s 14-footer for from the fringe at No. 18 looked good, but hit the left side of the cup and rimmed out. Watson then calmly drained an 8-footer to win the hole, halve the match and move on to the Round of 16.

Group 12

Charley Hoffman (1-2) def. *Tyrrell Hatton (2-1), 3 and 2

Hoffman prevents Hatton from moving onto the Round of 16, momentarily. Hatton actually took the first lead in this match, winning the fourth to move 1 up. But Hoffman won Nos. 5 and 6 to move 1 up. He then won Nos. 10 and 11 to make it a 3-up advantage. He eventually converted that into a 3-and-2 win. Then Hatton waited. If Steele and Levy halved, Hatton moved onto the Round of 16. But Steele won, which meant a playoff for a spot in the Round of 16. Hatton sealed the deal early. He bombed a drive on the first extra hole and wedged from 40 yards within 3 feet. Steele fumbled to bogey, so Hatton won with a birdie and advanced to the Round of 16.

Brendan Steele (2-1) def. Alexander Levy (1-2), 3 and 1

Steele was in charge of this match early and often. He won the third and fourth to move 2 up and retained a lead until closing out a 3-and-1 win. That victory got him into the aforementioned playoff with Hatton. Unfortunately for Steele, it was all for naught. He is eliminated.

*Hatton wins group, advances to Round of 16

Group 13

*Alex Noren (3-0) def. Tony Finau (2-1), 1 up

This was a nice closing match to decide the Round of 16 participant out of this group. Noren was 2 up through eight in this match but Finau birdied 10 and then eagled 12 to square this one up. But Noren was 1 up playing the final hole and faced a 15-footer to defeat Finau and avoid a playoff. Noren drained the putt, and thus sealed his spot in the Round of 16.

Thomas Pieters (0-2-1) vs. Kevin Na (0-2-1), halved

Both players were eliminated at the beginning of Friday. So yeah, this was a good match, but it did not mean much.

Group 14

Phil Mickelson (2-1) def. Rafa Cabrera Bello (1-2), 1 up

It looked like Lefty might still sneak into the weekend, but Howell’s victory ultimately prevented that. Still, some nice moments from Lefty. He was 2 down through three to Cabrera Bello but squared the match with a birdie-eagle run from Nos. 5 and 6. The match was still All Square through 14. But Mickelson then birdied No. 15 to move 1 up. Cabrera Bello squared it back at 16, but Mickelson then birdied 17 to move 1 up. When Mickelson drained an 8-footer at No. 18 to halve the hole, he’d won the match. Again, an early exit. But Lefty showed the fight he needed.

*Charles Howell III (3-0) def. Satoshi Kodaira (0-3), 2 and 1

This was an extremely close match for a while, but Howell took command late. Howell actually won the opening hole with a birdie, but Kodaira had taken a 1-up lead at the turn after winning Nos. 5 and 9 with birdies. But Howell birdied No. 10 to square the match. He then won the 14th and 16th to go dormie and then closed out at 17. This put Howell 3-0 for the week and onto the Round of 16.

Group 15

Gary Woodland (1-1-1) def. Pat Perez (0-2-1), 1 up

This was tougher than Woodland would’ve liked after moving 2 up after opening with back-to-back birdies, but he did prevail. Perez won Nos. 13-14 to square the match, but Woodland pulled this one out late. It ultimately didn’t matter, though, as both players have been eliminated.

*Si Woo Kim (2-0-1) def. Webb Simpson (1-1-1), 2 up

Well, Kim had to battle for this one despite a huge early lead. But he is onto the weekend. Kim birdied five of his first six in this match to take a 4-up lead. But Simpson won Nos. 7 and 8 to cut the lead to 2 up, and he had gotten it within one after a birdie on 15. But Kim was still 1 up heading to 18 and closed out there when Simpson couldn’t make a long putt. Kim is now onto the Round of 16.

Group 16

*Matt Kuchar (2-0-1) def. Ross Fisher (1-2), 6 and 4

This was just pure domination. Kuchar had this one early and really put a stamp when he made a hole-in-one to move 3 up through seven. Fisher never had a chance. Kuchar just needed to win this match to advance and that’s what he did. Kuch is onto the Round of 16.

Yuta Ikeda (1-1-1) vs. Zach Johnson (0-1-2), halved

A hard-fought one here, but both players have been eliminated. Ikeda needed to win this match and hope Kuchar would halve (meaning a playoff) or lose (meaning Ikeda would advance). That didn’t happen, so these two are going home.
