HINDSBORO – Darlene Kay Bunten, age 70, of Hindsboro, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Darlene was born February 8, 1946 in Tuscola, IL to Arthur Ray Bunten Sr. and Maxine LuEllen (Bacon) Bunten. She was a 1964 graduate of Oakland High School and a 1969 graduate of Eastern Illinois University. She worked as a clinical laboratory scientist, and was employed throughout her career at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL, Kapalani Childrens Hospital in Honolulu, HI, and University Hospital in San Antonio, TX. She enjoyed exercise, including biking and running marathons, and she was co-founder and director of the Challenger Run Hawaii. She was a member of a Star Trek Club called U.S.S. Lancelott, where she was knighted and held the rank of Commander. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi International and the Hindsboro Christian Church. She enjoyed crafts and dearly loved her kittys: Orion, Galileo, Sunny, Anaken and Cali.
She is survived by two brothers: Bob (Kay) Bunten of Bon Aqua, TN, and Bud (Marsha) Bunten of Monticello, IN, a sister: Brenda Bunten of Hindsboro, IL; two aunts; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her beloved kitty, Cali.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery in Mattoon, IL.
