(NBC) - Doctors still don't know what caused the massive brain hemorrhage suffered last week by rock star Bret Michaels, but he appears to be on the mend.

Promoters for some of the stops along the rocker's tour have been told to expect him to perform this summer.

"He's very hopeful that he'll out there rockin' hard in no time," said Ericka Souter of US Weekly.

The singer's sister, Michelle Sychak, told an Omaha radio station Thursday that her brother "Sounds like Bret" a week after suffering a brain hemorrhage.

She cautioned however, that Michaels is quote, "Not by any means out of the woods".

"He was diagnosed with hyponetremia and that means that he had such low sodium in his body that he ran the risk of having seizures. But doctors said it was a minor setback and they don't think it will affect his recovery," Souter said.

In fact, Michaels' road manager posted a message on his website Wednesday indicating that barring additional setbacks, the singer might be able to resume his concert tour May 26th in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

"He's a great guy, and I think everybody who worked with him on the show wishes him all the best," said Curtis Stone who appeared with Michael's on NBC's Celebrity Apprentice.

"This guy was so competitive. He probably worked harder than anyone else," said Donald Trump.

It's been a string of medical misfortune for Michaels, a lifelong diabetic who recently underwent an emergency appendectomy.

He also suffered an unexpected blow to the head at last year's Tony Awards.

It's a year that's left Michaels' fans on edge.

"It's been a really amazing show of support for the singer, because they're shocked that this happened to such a vibrant, loving, wonderful guy," said Souter.

Better days for the singer could lie ahead.
