Suspect found in field five hours after report of double-homicide

Alexander Lee Dombrowski

CAMDEN TWP., MI - A Hillsdale County Sheriff's deputy found a man suspected in a double homicide on foot in a field just south of the home where he allegedly shot two people.

Sheriff Timothy Parker said he had confirmation shortly after 9 a.m. that Alexander Lee Dombrowski, 36, was in police custody.

This came about five hours after a 911 call, logged at 4:07 a.m. Aug. 16, alerted authorities one person, an adult, had been shot at 15500 Grange Road, near the state border in southern Hillsdale County's Camden Township. By 4:15 a.m., deputies learned of a second victim, also an adult.

Deputies, sent to the area at 4:09 a.m., arrived about 4:33 a.m. and both people were dead. One was outside the home and the other was inside the residence, Parker said. Preliminarily, investigators believe Dombrowski used a shotgun.

Parker did not have many details about the shooting, how it transpired or the victims.

Initially, several people, including elderly and children, were inside the home, he said. "Fortunately, no one else has been reported injured or hurt," Parker said. Authorities were able to safely remove survivors.

Dombrowski is related to at least one of the victims. Establishing links is part of the investigation, active and ongoing. Michigan State Police also are involved and helped with the apprehension.

Police do not know what precipitated the shooting. "No motive at all at this point," Parker said.

The sheriff said the county prosecutor has been advised of the situation and assisted the sheriff's office in securing search warrants.

Dombrowksi was expected to be charged with murder and arraigned Thursday or Friday afternoon.

By late Thursday morning, he was at the sheriff's office and police were working to glean some information from him, Parker said.
