BIRMINGHAM, AL — The past week has seen the average daily number of new COVID-19 cases in Alabama almost double, as 24-hour totals topping more than 500 cases were reported multiple times over the last week.

This prompted the Birmingham City Council to extend its mandatory face covering order for another couple of weeks.
