'Biv' Of Bell Biv DeVoe Receives Honorary Belmont HS Degree

Michael Bivins, who left school his sophomore year to pursue a music career, returned Thursday to receive an honorary class of 1986 diploma.

BELMONT, MA – Michael Bivins, better known as "Biv" of the 90s band Bell Biv DeVoe, returned to Belmont High School Thursday to be awarded an honorary degree. Bivins, who is also a founding member of New Edition, left school his sophomore year to pursue his music career.

A Boston native who grew up in Roxbury, Bivins attended Belmont schools as part of the METCO program, according to WHDH. Through METCO, students from certain cities may attend public schools in other participating communities.

"Don't ever feel like you can't go back, fix something and do something again," Bivins told WHDH. He walked across the stage Thursday wearing a cap and gown and was presented with an honorary class of 1986 diploma.
