Lil Wayne to Be Honored With I Am Hip Hop Award

Lil Wayne is next up for the I Am Hip Hop Award. The honor will be handed out at next month's BET Hip Hop Awards hosted by DeRay Davis. 'Carter V' soon come?

As Tha Carter V seemingly makes its final descent into existence, fans can find additional solace in the fact that Lil Wayne will be receiving this year's I Am Hip Hop award.

The honor, which will be handed out at next month's BET Hip Hop Awards hosted by DeRay Davis, arrives as Wayne enters what is definitely starting to feel like the long-awaited revitalization period of his career. Legally speaking, Wayne is poised for one of his biggest years yet, with or without the repeatedly delayed Carter sequel.

Last week, Wayne landed on the cover of Billboard. In the accompanying interview by Dan Rys, Wayne addressed the comeback potential leading up to the once-elusive album's release. "I'm very much a perfectionist . . . I don't know what it's setting me up for—some big comeback, or maybe some big fall back or whatever—but it's setting me up for something, and I'm ready," he said.

As previously reported, the album will notably mark the first time a Wayne album has not been emblazoned with the Cash Money logo. As for Young Money, Wayne is now the sole owner.

Shortly after that interview dropped, Swizz Beatz released his Weezy-featuring "Pistol On My Side" single.
