What are your thoughts on that?

Bitty. We were good in patches with the ball. In the second half with all the changes it was a little bit disrupted, with young lads playing in positions they aren't used to. It is fitness. That's Hereford's fifth game and they are probably a bit ahead of us regards fitness and you probably did see that in the second half. We gave two poor goals away. I thought there was some good football played between that. It's just physically we didn't compete as well as I'd have liked against then as regards to coming out of tackles and things like that.

The second goal, a free header from a corner, must have been disappointing to watch even in a friendly

We have done no work on set plays, so I'll take responsibility for that. I have told them I will, as that's not the important part of pre-season yet, but when the ball is chipped in our six yard box I expect one of my players to go and head it. It's a two way street and a bit my fault, it was a disappointing goal, as their first was. Although I did think there was a stonewall free-kick in the build-up to it. I am not getting obsessed with goals and results. There were positives and it's another 60 or 70 minutes in most of their legs.

At least you scored from a set piece too

We've done nothing, for or against yet, but it gives you an idea that you run around for 90 minutes and 50 per cent of the goals were scored from things we've not even worked on.

Ryan Broom came off in the first half, how is he?

It's just precautionary. He had a bit of a tight hamstring and I took him off. He didn't feel anything, but I didn't want him to pull it. We are a bit thin on numbers so we are not taking risks. He's a fit lad anyway, Broomy, so he doesn't need the minutes as much.

Will Boyle and Conor Thomas came off at half-time, was that pre-planned?

Conor was supposed to do 60 minutes, but he got smashed in the first half and I thought it was a terrible tackle personally. He felt the effects for the rest of the half. The one thing he can normally do is keep the ball, but he gave it away a lot cheaply. He tried to soldier on, but he couldn't move really so we took him off.

You had a look at striker Jordan Annear late on, how did that one come about?

We are just having a look. I've probably had around 40 players thrown at me today. Some non-league. We are not in a position where we can take punts on loads of players. Where we are money wise, I'd like to bring in four experienced League Two players, but you are going to have to take gambles, or calculated gambles so we are looking at as many people as we can.

Dan Bowry made his first appearance in the second half, how's he done after having a knock on Saturday ruling him out of Stratford?

He had a knock, but he's a fit lad and you can see his athleticism. He still has things to work on, but that's why we've got him. He is a young lad that we think has the potential to develop. This time next year I'll be able to tell you if it's a good decision or a bad one.

How many more do you want to bring in, with 19 currently signed on?

I have not changed from 21 or 22. I don't want 25 all of a sudden or I'd have been lying for six months. That's the number we want to get to, whether we do or not I don't know. It's good experience for the younger ones. People like Archie (Brennan) and we had four or five Under-20s on the pitch at the end. We had a first year scholar (Toby Lawrence) sat on the bench. It's good learning and experience for them. That's why they are in the club, we are here to develop players and tonight is all about minutes and fitness. If we'd won 5-0 or 2-1 I'd have said the same thing. Get the players fit for August 3, that's the key. If we start losing game on August 3 I'll be saying a different thing and that's when you start worrying.

Does Chris Hussey have a chance for Leicester City on Saturday?

He's touch and go. With Huss, we have to protect him and it proved to work when I came in last year. We don't want a short term fix. If he has to miss one more game to get it right, we'll do it. It's a medical decision and we'll do what's best for him and us long term.

Has the new goal kick rule (no longer have to go outside the box before being touched by another player) affected the way you restart?

We've not worked on anything yet. Most of our work, probably about 80 per cent has been without the ball, regarding physical fitness shape and organisation. You could see it in the first half, we let them have it when we wanted them to have it and they could play around in their own half and then we crept and crept. It came away in the second half because of all the changes, but that's the main thing we've been looking at and I thought it looked quite good.
