TOWNS across Blaenau Gwent saw well-attended Remembrance events being held.

In Ebbw Vale the Remembrance Parade and Service took in Bethcar Street near Wetherspoon’s, before proceeding via Market Street and Libanus Road to the War Memorial for the Service of Remembrance.

MP Nick Smith attended the Abertillery service which saw groups meeting at 10.15am in Church Street, before marching to the war memorial for 10.45am and reassembling at 11.15am for a march to the Salvation Army Citadel for a church service.

Speaking afterwards he said: “Blaenau Gwent’s community spirit is firmly on display when we all gather on Remembrance weekend.

“Every year, come rain or shine, the borough comes together to pay their respects.

“It’s important to take the time to think about the price paid by many, past and present, for our hard-earned freedoms.”

In Brynmawr, groups assembled at 10.15am outside the Legion Club in Beaufort Street before heading to the square via King Street, Somerset Street, Bailey Street and Alma Street, before disbanding and reassembling in the Market Hall Cinema for a two-minute silence at 11am.

There was then a wreath laying service at the cenotaph in Market Square.

Services also took place in Beaufort, Tredegar, Nantyglo, Blaina and Llanhilleth among others.for service at 2.45 pm.
