ALBANY, NY - The New York State Building and Construction Trades

The New York State Building and Construction Trades Council has announced its endorsement of State Senator Terrence Murphy.

ALBANY, NY - The New York State Building and Construction Trades Council has announced its endorsement of State Senator Terrence Murphy. The council represents more than 200,000 unionized construction workers across New York State and represents 16 local building and trades councils, 12 district councils and 120 affiliated local unions. Since taking office in 2015 the local economy has surged to its lowest unemployment levels since 2007.

"Since being elected, we have seen the second strongest period of construction hiring in recorded history," Murphy said. "As we continue to reshore jobs and invest in our infrastructure we've watched the industry add workers and increase pay at rates higher than the overall economy. It's becoming a concern that we have more jobs than we can fill which is why in my next term I'll work to ensure we invest in high-tech job training, apprenticeship programs and the specializations we need to continue bringing our jobs back from abroad."

Murphy has been a leading voice in Albany advancing several priorities of construction workers across that State. He authored legislation that would clearly define public work projects and passed the Worker Protection Act for those employed at Indian Point to be trained for the decommission work so they retain their jobs rather than have a subsidiary bring in workers from out of state.

James Cahill, President of the New York State Building and Construction Trades Council said, "Senator Murphy has been a champion for the working men and women of this state and has demonstrated exemplary leadership on issues important to the Building and Trades, particularly with his desire to define public work and restore the prevailing wage law to its original intent. We are confident Senator Murphy will continue to lead the way when he is re-elected next month, and we look forward to our continued work on the issues facing working families."

Senator Murphy has built an unprecedented coalition of support, which includes:
