Heavy Downpours, Wind Gusts: When Charlotte Will See Rain

North Carolina can expect to see thunderstorms Thursday with potentially heavy downpours and damaging wind gusts, forecasters say.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte, along with the rest of the piedmont of North Carolina, can expect scattered showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and with some storms producing potentially heavy downpours, according to National Weather Service forecasters.

“The main threats will be cloud-to-ground lightning and locally heavy downpours,” NWS said in a hazardous weather outlook bulletin June 21. “However, a few isolated storms may produce damaging wind gusts.”

The storm warning comes as the region heads into what looks to be a potentially soggy and hot weekend. Daily highs will stay above 90 degrees Thursday through the weekend. The chance of rain continues Friday, into Saturday morning. Sunday will be sunny and hot, with a high of 95, though more rain could become possible in the evening.
