Middle and High School students have an opportunity to learn self-defense techniques from professionals.
Defensive tactics instructors from the Aransas Pass Police Department and local Marshal Arts trainers will be teaching students how to avoid falling victims to violent crimes.
“Nothing fancy, but they’re techniques that inflict a lot of pain,” says APPD defensive instructor J.D. Hinojosa. “These techniques are designed to use to get away from an attacker it goes beyond a basic school bully type thing, it’s life or death.”
The event is organized by Aransas Pass High School cheer mom, Misty Young, in memory of her friend Blanca Elisa Roberson, who went missing 29 years ago.
“To prevent another person from coming to harm, that’s the greatest way I can honor her memory,” says organizer Misty Young.
The event will be Monday, October 22, 2018, at the Charlie Marshall Elementary gym from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The cost is $10 per person.
All the funds raised will go towards sending the Aransas Pass Varsity Cheerleaders to Florida, where they will be performing at the 2019 Citrus Bowl New Years Day.
Young says they still have to raise several thousand dollars.
