CARTER, THOMAS LEAD WINNERS AT FAMOSO

            BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Dean Carter, Glendale, Ariz., grabbed his second win in as many days in the Comp Eliminator class for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Auto Club Famoso Raceway Saturday night.  Carter beat fellow Glendale, Ariz., racer Mike DePalma with a pass of 7.461 seconds at 148.46 mph to go along with his win on Friday for the delayed NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event from Firebird International Raceway that was completed during qualifying for Saturday's event.
            The Super Stock trophy went to Don Thomas, Spruce Grove, Alb., CAN, with California racers sweeping the remaining seven categories.  Thomas ran 9.836 seconds, 134.36 mph in defeating Jim Rau, Sacramento, Calif.
            Ryan Mangus, led that California racers winning in Stock Eliminator over Leo Glasbrenner in his '67 Camaro.  Robert Naber, Ontario, Calif., added a win in Super Comp running 8.926, 164.44 against Brian Fischle, Twin Peaks, Calif., and Randy Bowers of Riverside, Calif., won in Super Gas and his '69 Camaro.
            Other winners included Wayne Newman, Lancaster, Calif., in the Sunset Race Craft Top Sportsman class with a 7.560 second, 181.52 mph pass; Chip Rumis, Ramona, Calif., in the Hughes Performance Top Dragster class beating Terry White in 6.866 seconds at 197.36 mph; Ted Kellner, San Jose, Calif., took the Super Street trophy; and Anthony Pellettera, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., bested Gary Moreno, La Verne, Calif., in the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson.
Pacific Division racers head to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, November 4-7.
