A 54-year-old Seattle man was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting a car that careened across several lanes of southbound Interstate 5 in Tukwila on Wednesday evening, the Washington State Patrol said in a news release.

The accident kept part of I-5 blocked for about three hours as troopers investigated.

Just before 5:30 p.m., troopers think an Audi A6 struck a Nissan Murano, causing the Nissan driver to lose control.

The Nissan, driven by a 36-year-old Des Moines woman, slid across several lanes of the freeway and was hit by the motorcycle rider.

The driver of the Audi fled the scene on foot, according to the news release. State Trooper Rick Johnson said a search dog was not able to find that driver.

“We have an idea of who the suspect is, but he has not been apprehended,” Johnson said.

The motorcycle rider was injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was in satisfactory condition Thursday morning. The driver of the Nissan was taken to Valley Medical Center in Renton.
