Man Found Unconscious After Detox Transport: Police

Deputies say that no force was used. An investigation has begun.

BOULDER, CO - An intoxicated New York man taken into protective custody by Boulder Police officers at 2:30 a.m. Sunday was found unconscious and unresponsive after being taken to Boulder's Addiction Recovery Center. An investigation into the incident has begun.

The 23-year-old man remains unconscious and in critical condition.

Police say the man, who was not identified, was found unconscious in the police van and immediately removed. Medics were summoned as the two deputies began CPR. Once medics arrived, they were able to regain a pulse on the man. He was then taken to Boulder Community Foothills Hospital, according to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Department.

When he was arrested, the man showed visible signs of extreme intoxication and was belligerent with deputies.

Both deputies indicate that no force was used during the transport, it is unknown what caused the man to enter cardiac and respiratory arrest. Boulder Sheriff Joe Pelle has asked the Boulder County Investigation Team to investigate. No details of the investigation have been released.

Additional Boulder Police Department representatives at the Addiction Recovery Center as well as Boulder Fire Department and AMR Ambulance personnel assisted in the CPR rescue efforts.
