Julianne Hough reveals she considers getting hit in the face by Paula Abdul's hat at the Billboard Music Awards the 'greatest moment' of her life

What may have been an embarrassing moment for some ended up being the highlight of Julianne Hough's year.

At the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, Julianne, 30, was smacked in the face by none other than 56-year-old Paula Abdul's hat during her performance, which Hough gushed about while on the Today show in New York City on Monday.

According to the blonde, the incident is one she is 'honored' to have been a part of.

While appearing on the talk show, Hough dished all about her Abdul experience.  

As she talked, the beauty wore a stunning Acler red two piece set with her choppy, short hair in waves.

She paired the pant and crop top combo with see through pointed heels.

With the shirt hanging low, a tasteful hint of Julianne's cleavage was also revealed.

She sat down with Jenna Bush Hager and Savannah Guthrie and talked all things America's Got Talent, plus the BBMAs.

For those who missed it, Paula performed her hit song, Straight Up, at the award show, opening with a tap routine that left crowds in awe.

Abdul eventually climbed down from the stage to walk through the audience, with a crew of dapper men dancing behind her.

As she walked, she whipped off her black top hat and it accidentally plowed right into an unsuspecting Hough.

But Julianne recovered quickly with a shocked smile on her face.

The dancer explained to the hosts her reason for why she didn't mind being hit by the oncoming object.

She said: 'Being a dancer, I've always looked up to her in general because she started out dancing, she's a musician, she's had a long career'

'I was honored to be thwacked, smacked, whatever it is,' Hough said.

And despite the mishap, the ladies proved to remain friends as Julianne then said: 'Literally right afterwards, I picked her up. She can like fit in my pocket.'

The original American Idol judge shared the tweet and added: 'OMG I'M PEEING MY PANTS!!!! You know it was with love,' along with some laughing emojis.

Season 14 of the show premieres Tuesday, May 28.

As for Abdul, she recently announced she has a new residency in Las Vegas.

The show will be called Paula Abdul: Forever Your Girl and it will be held at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino.

This comes after she looked sensational during her 2019 Billboard Music Awards performance where she sang a medley of her biggest hits. 

The residency kicks off on August 13 and ends on January 4, 2020.
