Edward F. Deitz

Edward F. Deitz, age 89 of Grafton, ND passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton, ND.

Edward Frank Deitz was born March 29, 1929 in Glen Ulin, ND the son of the late Frank and Magdalena (Weiss) Deitz. He grew up and attended school there. Following his education he enlisted in the United States Army serving from 1951-1952. While in the service he served as a Forward Observer for the 5th Armored Division. He also served as a Honor Guard for President Truman. Upon his discharge he moved to Bismarck and started working for the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He married Josephine Elter on April 19, 1951 in Bismarck, ND. The couple moved to Grafton, ND and Ed worked for the Vernon Business Promotion Company. He was top salesman of the year for the United States seven years in a row. Ed later went on his own and started Deitz Business Promotions in Grand Forks, ND. He ran the company for 12 years. After retiring the couple moved to Sun City West, AZ and lived there until 2005 when they returned to Grafton. He moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home in February of 2015.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Grafton American Legion Post and the Grafton VFW Post. He served with the Lion's Club in both Grafton and Grand Forks, ND.

Ed is survived by his wife Josephine, Grafton, ND; children: Patricia (Michael) Leighton, Grafton, ND; Mari Jo Deitz, Grand Forks, ND; Elizabeth Armstrong, Jacksonville, FL; Julie Tilka, Minneapolis, MN; James (Ann Marie) Deitz, Turlock, CA; Michael (Arlene) Deitz, Fort Collins, CO; Theresa (Keith) Cresap, Minneapolis, MN; 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and siblings: Yvonne Meier, AZ; Sylvia Wetzel, CA; Claudia Copitas, CA; Eugene (Nancy) Deitz, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Jennifer, son, Richard, grandson Jonathan and brother, Marvin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home, Grafton, ND. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Grafton, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
