A Longmont man is facing a felony charge of first-degree assault, among others, after trespassing into the home of a woman whom he had a previous relationship with and assaulting her.

Matthew Dale Mann, 39, was arrested Monday on suspicion of felony charges of first-degree burglary, first- and second-degree assault, and tampering with physical evidence. He is also facing misdemeanor charges of domestic violence, third-degree assault and three counts of harassment.

Longmont police reported injuries on the alleged victim that matched the description of the assault, according to the arrest affidavit. She was taken to the hospital due to the severity of the injuries.

Mann was arrested without incident the morning after the assault and told police he “had no idea what happened the night prior,” according to the affidavit. He was taken to Boulder County Jail.

Mann first became aggressive when his friend and the woman tried to get him to switch from beer to water during a night spent barhopping, according to the affidavit.

After fighting with his friend, the three got in a car to leave. According to the affidavit, Mann started yelling and cursing at the woman, who is not named in the report, and shoved her out of the car.

The victim ran off at that point and was picked up by a friend. When she returned home, she realized Mann had used a spare key she leaves hidden outside to get in, even though she had not invited him to her home, according to the affidavit.

Mann confronted her about “leaving” him at the bar, then quickly became physical. According to the affidavit, he shoved her to the ground multiple times and physically assaulted her.

He also put his hand around her neck and applied pressure until “she started telling him she had kids and grandkids and not to do this.”

When Mann left the alleged victim in the bathroom and told her to clean up, she instead grabbed her keys and went to a friend’s home and called police.

After police arrived, she was taken to Longmont United Hospital for treatment. She suffered three fractured ribs and major contusions to her face, as well as scratches and bruising around her neck and scrapes on her hand and ankle and other bruising, the affidavit says.

Police searched the alleged victim’s residence to ensure no one else was inside and look for evidence. According to the report, they found bloody tissues near the bathroom sink, several blood stains in the living room on carpet, furniture and the wall, a clump of hair on a rug and a bloody shirt in the kitchen that appeared to belong to Mann.

Police also found what they believe were brass knuckles with blood on them on the kitchen counter. They collected the alleged victim’s cellphone, which had several “vulgar voicemails” from Mann on it. The text messages from Mann appeared to have been deleted, she told police.

Colorado court records show that Mann has previous criminal history in multiple counties, including previous assault and felony menacing convictions, as well as a protection from abuse order that was filed against him in 2004.
