In Red Hook, funky live-work home with vintage details seeks $1.975M

Red Hook isn’t a neighborhood defined by any one particular architectural style (unlike, say, Park Slope and its brownstones), which means that houses like the one at 52 Van Dyke Street—most likely built at the turn of the century, and covered in clapboard with a breee block fence—are not such a rarity.

The house, asking $1.975 million, is a hybrid—part living space, and part studio for the interior design firm Halard–Halard (owned by Bastien Halard, subject of this memorable Vogue home tour and, apparently, on a first-name basis with “a well-heeled roster”). His thing is eclectic spaces with vintage touches, which is what you’ll find in this house; much of its original detail was preserved, including pressed tin ceilings and wide plank wooden floors.

But there have been modern upgrades, too: The master bathroom has new fixtures, the minimalist kitchen has new appliances, and the heating system has gotten an upgrade—no old radiators here. There’s also, allegedly, a “huge outdoor sanctuary” on the home’s lot; alas, no photos of that (nor a floorplan) accompany the listing.
