VANCEBURG — The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking information regarding an alleged fugitive on the run from West Virginia State Police and is who was seen in Tollesboro this week.

Deputy Matt Ross of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office said Bernard Dean Legg was spotted at the Dixie Cafe in Tollesboro on Wednesday. Legg was reported to have arrived and left the cafe in a white van.

Authorities responded to the report of a stolen vehicle. Ross said after interviewing people in the area, they determined it was Legg who had been in the area.

A gold painted, 2009 GMC pickup truck was discovered stolen from a driveway on Simmons Road, Ross said. In the truck’s place was a white van, which was discovered to have been reported stolen from West Virginia.

Ross said Legg is suspected of receiving stolen property and theft of a stolen vehicle, however that doesn’t take into account possible charges pending from alleged crimes in West Virginia.

According to Ross, Legg is believed to be attempting to return to West Virginia and was somewhere between the Ohio-West Virginia state line as of 2 p.m. Thursday.

Ross said West Virginia authors claim Legg looks different than current photographs of him show, having next to no hair on his head and being very thin.

If anyone has any information leading to the apprehension of Legg, contact the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office at 606-796-2912.
