With the Dark Knight basically barely out of diapers when ‘Gotham’ begins, the show will focus on Detective James Gordon dealing with the assorted criminal activity taking place in the city, as well as the origins of some of the biggest villains that the Caped Crusader encounters in his career. Previously, we learned that his greatest foe, the Joker, will be teased throughout the series, but before the Clown Prince of Crime makes an appearance, Gotham PD will certainly have their hands full with quite the rogues gallery, including the star of the latest TV spot for the upcoming Fox series.

Fox recently debuted a new ad for the DC Comics series featuring a closer look at Jada Pinkett Smith’s Fish Mooney, a crime boss and club owner with “almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book.” The character is completely original to the new show, but she’ll have some familiar faces to back her up in her takeover of the Gotham underworld. To get to know Mooney a bit better before the show premieres, check out the video below:

Smith definitely has a devious and sadistic aura about her when she embodies this role. Though we don’t know much about her yet, it’s easy to tell that Fish Mooney won’t be taking any crap from anybody in this pre-Batman world. It would seem like Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon will have his hands full with a dangerous lady like this on the streets.

What do you think about Jada Pinkett Smith’s character on ‘Gotham’, Fish Mooney? Do you think that there are any established villains from DC canon that she could be borrowing some attributes from? Or do you see her coming into her own and making her mark on Batman mythology after this show premieres? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

‘Gotham’ starring Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, and Jada Pinkett Smith premieres on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 8/7c on Fox.
