What Kate wore: how the Duchess of Cambridge took a backseat on Harry and Meghan's wedding day

Kate Middleton had to adjust to that transition herself in 2011 when she went from scrutinised royal girlfriend to senior member of the British royal family after her wedding. She was no longer a party planner, but a future queen. Since that moment, her style has been analyzed within an inch of its life, her eyeliner and her hemlines - but now, after the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, she has some company.

Kate is all too aware of the impact her appearance has at any event, whether it's personal or professional, which is why she knew that distracting from the bride wasn't an option. Similarly, when her sister Pippa wed James Matthews last May, she opted for a silk peach dress that many described as 'mumsy'. In her attempt to blend in by not dressing impeccably, she was stood out by default.

The same went went for her brother-in-law's wedding, today, she wore a subtle lemon dress and coat by Alexander McQueen, with a pair of Jimmy Choo heels and a Philip Treacy hat. Just one month after giving birth to her third child Prince Louis (another iconic fashion moment), she reverted back to her pre-pregnancy style.

Her appearance was particularly noted because it's reportedly the last time we will see her for a number of months as she's planning extended maternity leave after feeling she returned back to her royal duties too quickly after Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

She certainly knows how to make an impression!
